Secretary of Labor Nominee Lori Chavez-DeRemer Advances to Full Senate
By Rachel Pick and Frida Mendez, DCLRS

AmericanHort continues to champion workforce solutions for the horticulture industry, with a strong focus on the H-2B program. In recent discussions with former Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer, the organization highlighted the program’s role in sustaining businesses and strengthening the U.S. economy. Chavez-DeRemer, who represented Oregon’s 5th Congressional District from 2023 to 2025, has been actively involved in agricultural labor issues as a member of the House Agriculture Committee and the bipartisan Agricultural Labor Working Group.

On February 27, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee approved Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination for Secretary of Labor, with a final Senate vote expected soon. Despite her pending confirmation, she has already engaged with industry leaders to better understand the H-2A and H-2B programs and their impact. AmericanHort anticipates working closely with Chavez-DeRemer and her team to advance policies that ensure a reliable and sustainable workforce for the horticulture industry.

AmericanHort signed a letter of support for her nomination.
